And lo, it was said that the final Harry Potter book would come out on 7/21/07, and thus a date for the Potterdämmerung was set, when all the world would be enveloped by fire and wank, mostly from angry psychofans. Sadly, it was not as apocalyptic as we hoped, mostly because all the really good wank took place on locked message boards or Livejournals. Fortunately, Strikethrough came along to relieve our need to freak the hell out.

Etymology
As far as I know, the word was coined by dragonscholar/Xwayfarer, although other sources say it was coined by waltraute on JF. I seem to have popularized it somewhat, but I have always been careful to point out as often as possible that it doesn't originate with me. (See Götterdämmerung.)
