Strawberry Shortestcake

Page history last edited by Cleolinda 14 years, 9 months ago

June 5th, 2009: In which The Littlest Bella produces her first culinary masterpiece, and Legolas solves a problem no one wanted solved.

"You have no idea what good she could do me, what purpose she would give me. She would be my little petit four, my mini-marshmallow, my precious macaron--"

"Do you really think it's a good idea to compare her to food?"

"--I would never hurt her, I would devote my life to her, if I could only have one kiss--"

"You'd bite her head off. Like an animal cracker."

Notes

  • Just to lay it all out there, the Girdle of Melian was the Maia/elf queen consort Melian's protective barrier around the forest kingdom of Doriath. Apparently Galadriel learned the baking of lembas from her, according to the books.

  • The "strawberry shortcake" is from a Strawberry Shortcake playset (surprise!) that was--I guess you'd describe it as a strawberry-shaped bake shop.

  • I'm not saying The Littlest Bella is based on my sister, exactly, but anything I know about fine pastry and the baking thereof comes from having lived in the same house with her while she got her associate's degree from the Culinard.

  • "Well, I guess they can" refers to the scene in Twilight/Midnight sun where Edward shows Bella that he can eat (pizza, in this case) if he has to, so as not to blow his non-food-eating vampire cover; it was my conjecture that he'd have to go throw it up later.

  • "What, my indestructible marble esophagus?": Something that didn't occur to me as I wrote this--perhaps it wouldn't have occurred to either of "us" in-story at the time, either--is that The Littlest Edward is not actually made of marble (or a substance as hard as marble, or whatever) the way the Cullens are in the books, as TLE discovered in The Scene of the Crime.

  • A macaroon is a coconut or almond cookie made with egg whites; a macaron is a French almond pastry... uh... also made with egg whites. But macarons are the ones that are often made to look like little sandwich cookies, frequently in a rainbow of colors (think Marie Antoinette).
