June 26th, 2009: In which the fugitives are brought home, and the Anna/Bella showdown is inevitable.

 "You guys ready to come home yet?"

I don't know if they were afraid I was going to punish them, but a certain tension did seem to evaporate from their faces after I said that. In fact, going back upstairs, they started chattering away about their many adventures (remind me to tell you about the cat and the cedar closet sometime). They also seemed to have used their time away from The Shelf for some relaxation and self-improvement:

"I got my nails did!"

• The "apple tart" in question is made up of pieces from my sister's Pancake Meow collection; the tiny apple corer on the table is Rement.

• Anna's nails did not actually get did; that's the factory paint job on the doll.

• Elizabeth is now sporting a purple ribbon for a sash (with an old bracelet tucked in, but the bracelet was first mentioned in Girl Talk III) and a string of beads (whatever odd loose beads I had on hand) run over her head under her hat so that the ends hang down.
