October 29th, 2008: The Interview

HEY YOU GUYS IT'S AN INTERVIEW WITH ROBERT TONNER--

"What is it now?"

"Are there pictures?"

How do you guys always know when I'm looking at dolls?

"Look, you don't scream like that unless it's relevant to our interests. You want to keep this stuff undercover, you gotta be a little more slick than that."

(Now Purple Arwen's over on The Shelf yelling, "HEY WHAT IS IT? DO I NEED TO COME OVER THERE?")

"NEWS UPDATE ON EDWARD DOLLEN, YOU GOTTA SEE THIS!"

"IS IT THE TALL ONE THIS TIME?"

LOOK, EVERYBODY GET OVER HERE AND LET'S GET THIS OVER WITH ALL AT ONCE. Wait, where's Fugagorn and White Arwen?

"You don't want to know."

Augh, I had to ask.

*reading*

*still reading*

"Can you make the print a little bigger?"

It's already at 110%!

"MY EYES ARE REALLY SMALL, OKAY?"

LOOK, I'LL READ IT OUT LOUD.

When we do a portrait of an actor, we first get every bit of reference we can—and that’s not always easy. The studio usually supplies us what they can, but those pictures are not always the best to sculpt by, so we go on the internet and find any pictures we can.

"So basically, Edward's going to look like a stoner hobo."

"I'm all right with that."

"He could have three arms and you'd be all right with that."

...

"Dude, are you imagining that now? Don't stand next to me."

Of course the first characters out will be Bella and Edward. I’d like to do all of them, depending on how well they do, but probably James and Victoria will be next.

NOOOOO I WANT AN ALICE DOLLEN!

"Victoria has good hair, though."

"Will she be wearing the pelt of whatever that is?"

"If she has that 'Kiss Me, I'm Irish' shirt on, I'm just gonna laugh at her all day long."

"What about James? He's a guy, at least. And we do need more of those--"

"Please, that sad-ass ponytail? It was a dealbreaker for me then and it's a dealbreaker for me now."

"You look at that picture and all you see is his ponytail?"

However, I’d love to figure out a way to do Edward as he looks with the sun on his skin—that would be a challenge!

"YOU HAVE TO GET THAT."

"DON'T YOU DARE."

ONE AT A TIME, Y'ALL!

"I'M NOT SHARING THAT SHELF WITH A DISCO BALL."

"I think I would be okay with sparkling. Kind of reminds me of home, really."

Well, I'd say you lost the vote, Anna, except it's not like I can afford to buy dolls willy-nilly as it is. And wouldn't y'all rather have someone with a sword or something?

"Well..."

"I'M SAYING."

The clothing can be pretty easy—and in this case they were. Accessories can be challenging, but in this case there was nothing out of the ordinary.

"I like how he keeps saying through the whole interview that basically these guys are easy to make because they're really boring."

(Anna polishes her knuckles on that hella-complicated corset of hers.)

"Could you scroll down a bit? The pictures of the disembodied doll parts are... kind of freaking me out."

We should have images of the dolls out in early November (if we stay on track!).

"YOU KEEP AN EYE OUT FOR THOSE."

COOL IT, EOWYN.

"Oh, like we won't hear her scream when she gets them in her email."

The production dolls should be out in the first quarter of next year. The dolls will be in the $150.00 range.

Well, shit.

"You better start saving your pennies now, hoss."

"I'll go start checking under the couch cushions!"

"You would always sell ELLOWYNE, you know."

Eowyn, LET IT GO.
