In fandom terms, "canon" refers to things that actually happen in a book, movie, tv show, etc. Fanon is an idea made up by fans to fill in the empty spaces that then becomes popular in the fandom at large, and sometimes gets mistaken for fact. (Woobification is a frequently-seen form of fanon, for example. Passionately held shipping beliefs are another.) When a new development directly contradicts your fanon, you have been Jossed.
