He Who Fights Monsters

Page history last edited by Cleolinda 14 years, 9 months ago

March 3rd, 2009: In which I awake to find someone watching me sleep. Just... not the person I expected.

Anna glared at me. “It’s not sick when I do it. I’m not going to sit here all night and—think about you."

"No, you’re just going to sit here and think about him thinking about me. What’s that saying? He who fights monsters needs to check himself before he becomes one? You look into the sparkle for too long and the sparkle looks into you, or something? OW! GODDAMMIT! WHAT WAS THAT! YOUR PISTOL? YOU THREW YOUR PISTOL AT ME?"

  • In Twilight, Edward Cullen notoriously sits in Bella's room and watches her sleep. Without her knowledge. FOR WEEKS.

  • In Midnight Sun, Edward says that he feels like it would be intruding to read the titles of Bella's books and CDs. So he'll just watch her sleep instead. You know.

  • The Littlest Edward is actually "browsing" the Anne of Green Gables books in the picture. In one of the Twilight books, Bella has some Anne-and-Gilbert-related flight of fancy.

  • Re: Richard Marx: Edward says in one of the books that he likes classical music and '80s music (but hates the '60s and '70s). (Look, if book recapping has burnt all this stuff into my brain, I might as well have fun with it, right?)

  • "He who fights monsters," etc., is paraphrased (badly) from Nietzsche. "Sometimes the sparkle looks into you" is the best explanation I can think of as to why the Twilight books drive me crazy, and yet they've still eaten my brain.
