Walked out on February 13th, 1998, when I was a freshman in college. Apart from a brief "Uh... hi" later that month, I personally haven't seen or heard from him since, although my mother had many, many dealings with him in court. The long and short of it is that he had his own small insurance agency, and when he couldn't bring in enough to pay the office bills, he "robbed Peter to pay Paul" and messed around with the clients' money. He was eventually convicted of insurance fraud, although he actually left my mother because he was leading a double life in which he no longer had the insurance company (instead, he'd wander hardware stores all day, is my understanding) and was having an affair with another woman. He moved in with The Woman, and meanwhile, we kept discovering terrifying new developments (he'd hidden several lawsuits from clients from my mother for years; he'd defrauded half the town; he hadn't filed our taxes in years). At one point, the FBI came to look through some old boxes of papers; that December, while I was home on Christmas vacation, a state trooper showed up on our doorstep. I won't get into the whole business here, but that's the crux of it. As of 2008, I won't have seen him in ten years.
